Fertility friendly granola

I don’t know about you but I often struggle with what to have for breakfast that isn’t toast or a sugar filled cereal from the supermarket. Well you’re in luck because I’m about to share my delicious granola that is fertility friendly with it’s nuts, seeds, and oats. And the best bit is takes about 20 minutes to make and you can make a big batch to last a few weeks.

Another good thing about this recipe is it can be adapted to use whatever nuts, seeds and dried fruit you have in the cupboard. Or you could make it vegan by swapping the honey for maple syrup or another sweetener. If you just want a muesli, omit the honey and oil and don’t cook it. So many options!

My favourite toppings are greek yoghurt and fruit- I like banana or berries, but you can pick whatever you like!

So why is it good for fertility? It’s all about those ingredients!

Nuts and seeds contain a lot of helpful nutrients for fertility, both for men and women. Depending on the type of nut you have, these can include zinc, omega 3’s, selenium and inositols. Rolled oats are a good source of soluble fibre, helping keep you regular and fuller for longer, and are a low GI carbohydrate giving you sustained energy over a longer time period. Extra virgin olive oil is my choice for this recipe as it contains antioxidants and healthy fats which are good for overall health as well as fertility.

What you’ll need:

  • mixing bowl

  • measuring cups and spoons

  • oven tray

Ingredients:

  • 2C rolled oats

  • 1C soy protein puffs

  • 2 Tbsp linseeds

  • 2 Tbsp hemp seeds

  • 1/3 C pumpkin seeds

  • 1/2 C crushed walnuts

  • 1/3 C dried cranberries (reduced sugar)

  • 2 Tbsp oil

  • 2 Tbsp honey

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees celsius.

  2. Mix all dry ingredients together, then add oil and honey and combine.

  3. Place onto oven tray and cook for 10-12 minutes until starting to brown.

  4. Allow to cool before storage.
